Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) is an extraordinarily dense hardwood native to the deserts of the American Southwest. Its warm, richly figured appearance and outstanding wear resistance make it an ideal material for bow components. It shares the same density as ebony, but slightly fiberous in nature yielding a different surface texture. It is similar in beauty to the mottled appearance of tortoiseshell. This is my first use of this wood, with more to come!
